Steffensberg

“Kröver Steffensberg” is considered a prime vineyard in Kröv, not only due to its real steep slope with a gradient of up to 30°, i.e. 60% incline.

The slate soil from the Devonian period gives the grapes their unique Moselle-typical minerality . This location also benefits from its good water retention capacity , especially in dry years.

Together with the first-class clay slate and the sun-drenched south-facing orientation, this location is the origin of our premium wines, which let their quality speak for itself.

Letterlay

The “Kröver Letterlay” borders the “Steffensberg” vineyard. Here you will find the steepest slopes in Kröv, which makes the work in the vineyard extremely ardous and demanding, but rewards us with its premium quality .

The site faces partly south and partly southeast. Here too, the many hours of sunshine and the blue-grey Devonian slate ensure that the wine has a full-bodied and long-lasting taste.

Kirchlay

The “Kröver Kirchlay” location is characterized by its diversity. The vineyards extend from the edge of Kröv up to the forest border.

On the lower, flatter slope, the soil consists of stony, water-retaining clay, whereas the upper, steeper area is made up of slate rubble with a high clay content.

Many of our different grape varieties are grown in this location, including Riesling, Pinot Noir and Dornfelder. It is particularly worth mentioning that our Kirchlay Riesling can be easily made into first-class sparkling wine. Our newly planted “Zukunftsreben” (“vines of the future”) also find optimal growing conditions here.

paradise

“Kröver Paradies” is the largest single vineyard in Kröv and also faces south.

The Rivaner (Müller-Thurgau) grape variety finds optimal growing conditions in the flat vineyards located towards the banks of the Moselle. This fine-grained soil prevents too much evaporation and produces fruity, floral wines.

In the steeper sections, the proportion of clay slate increases again, so that our Rieslings and Dornfelder vines thrive there.

Due to the open land, this location is unfortunately particularly vulnerable to late frosts, so that the young have been lost to frost several times already.

naked ass

Our world-famous “Kröver Nacktarsch” (literally translated as “naked ass”) describes every vineyard that belongs to Kröv. This means that all grapes grown in the four individual vineyards mentioned above can also be marketed as “Kröver Nacktarsch”.

The origin of the name Kröver Nacktarsch is documented by a donation contract from 1645, in which two Kröver vineyards, the “Cranenarsch” and “Jungarsch”, are mentioned. In the Kröver dialect, the surrounding vineyards were soon also called Nacktarsch .

In 1922, the winemaker Carl Schnitzius-Müller began to sell this wine, and the innkeeper Jungle Dick (Ritter Götz) made the Kröver Nacktarsch internationally known.

In 1930, August Lebenstedt designed a new Nacktarschlabel , which the winemakers of Kröv still consider to be their label today.
